Texas: spring migration on the upper coast + Hill Country extension

This peak-of-spring-migration trip revolves around legendary migration hotspots of the Upper Texas Coast: High Island, Bolivar Peninsula, and Anahuac NWR, where a huge diversity of birds are passing through in mid-April. We also visit inland sites for a different set of birds, including Red-cockaded Woodpecker. 25+ species of warblers are possible, along with excellent diversity of shorebirds, wading birds, terns, thrushes, vireos, flycatchers, and other migrants. This is a physically easy trip, staying in one hotel for the whole trip and walking entirely on flat ground.

The Hill Country Extension will focus on finding that region’s famous resident breeding birds: Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo, along with many western birds and watching the incredible evening bat emergence, all in a beautiful setting.

Itineraries will be updated with plenty of time before the next departure. Our itineraries usually show minimal changes between years, but some substantive updates can occur as birding access and information evolves. For any specific questions regarding these trips, please contact us.
