Brazil: The Pantanal and cerrado + Amazon Pre-trip + Iguaçu Falls Post-trip

This trip focuses on one of the world's great wetland ecosystems, Brazil's Pantanal. It offers both incredible birding and some of the best wildlife viewing anywhere in the Americas. We hope to see birds like Hyacinth Macaw and Red-legged Seriema and will devote at least a day to looking for the America's largest cat, the Jaguar. We will also visit the spectacular Chapada dos Guimarães, with its convenient location, beautiful scenery, and unique birdlife.

Our Amazon extension has us spending four nights along the Rio São Benedito, which is part of the incredible southern Amazon ecosystem. Our fantastic lodge, Pousada Thaimaçu, has started catering to birders in recent years and has become a premier location to visit. The lodge has a fantastic set of trails and a top-class canopy tower allowing access to a variety of habitats and hundreds of species of birds, including recently described species like Bald Parrot, Kawall’s Parrot, and Cryptic Forest-Falcon.

The extension visits Iguaçu Falls, one of the world's mightiest waterfalls, where will have a full day on both the Brazil and Argentina sides of the falls, while being based in Brazil.

Itineraries will be updated with plenty of time before the next departure. Our itineraries usually show minimal changes between years, but some substantive updates can occur as birding access and information evolves. For any specific questions regarding these trips, please contact us.
