Brazil: The Pantanal and cerrado + Southeast brazil Pre-trip + Iguaçu Falls Post-trip
This trip focuses on one of the world's great wetland ecosystems, Brazil's Pantanal. It offers both incredible birding and some of the best wildlife viewing anywhere in the Americas. We hope to see birds like Hyacinth Macaw and Red-legged Seriema and will devote at least a day to looking for the America's largest cat, the Jaguar. We will also visit the spectacular Chapada dos Guimarães, with its convenient location, beautiful scenery, and unique birdlife.
Our Southeast Brazil extension has us spending a week in the endemic-rich rainforests of the Atlantic Forest. This pre-tour is planned to dovetail perfectly with the Pantanal tour, since most people will be arriving in Brazil in São Paulo, where the pre-tour starts. We will look for a wide variety of beautiful tanagers, glittering cotingas, mega woodpeckers, and plenty of endemic antbirds, furnariids, and flycatchers.
The extension visits Iguaçu Falls, one of the world's mightiest waterfalls, where will have a full day on both the Brazil (where we will be staying) and Argentina sides of the falls, plus an additional day for birding. The birding here is tremendous and wonderfully complements a visit to the Falls themselves.
Itineraries will be updated with plenty of time before the next departure. Our itineraries usually show minimal changes between years, but some substantive updates can occur as birding access and information evolves. For any specific questions regarding these trips, please contact us.
