MEXICO: Veracruz RIVER OF RAPTORS

Custom tours only at this time. Each year, millions of migrating birds use a narrow corridor along the coastal state of Veracruz to migrate south, including nearly the entire global population of Broad-winged Hawks, Swainson’s Hawks, Mississippi Kites, and Turkey Vultures. Anhingas, Wood Storks, Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, and many others also use this incredible migration corridor.

If migration wasn’t enough, we will also visit surrounding habitats for a nice suite of Mexican endemics and tropical species, including Red Warbler and Strickland’s Woodpecker.

MEXICO: TOTAL ECLIPSE & WEST MEXICAN ENDEMICS

Next set departure: April 7-15, 2024 (Tour full! Contact us for waitlist.) Mexico is well-known for its spectacular endemic birds, and incredible diversity of habitats. In western Mexico, this maxim rings especially true. Outlined by the biologically rich Sierra Madre Occidental to the east, and the rugged Pacific coast to the west, this short tour takes us through coastlines, mangrove lagoons, dry forest, subtropical forest, pine-oak highlands, and more.

If the birding wasn’t good enough already, we have timed this trip to coincide with a total solar eclipse. Another total eclipse in our region isn’t expected for over 20 years, so this is our chance!

Mexico: Oaxaca Valley to the coast

January 7-18, 2025

Located in the endemic-laden Southwest of the country, Oaxaca is Mexico’s birdiest state. With a large diversity of habitats, and highlands that straddle the divide between the Pacific and Atlantic slopes, Oaxaca boasts a list of nearly 700 species.

Oaxaca is a historic region, with a unique culture, delicious cuisine, and incredible pre-Columbian ruins, making for a wonderful all-around travel experience.

Mexico: The Yucatán Peninsula

For the nature-lover and birder, the Yucatán is equally famous. The region’s forests, scrub, and beaches are home to over 15 endemic species, from the conspicuous Yucatan Jay to the retiring Yucatan Nightjar.
