Texas: Hill country & upper texas coast in spring migration

In collaboration with the San Diego Bird Alliance!

This peak-of-spring-migration trip starts in the Texas Hill Country before shifting to the legendary migration hotspots of the Upper Texas Coast: High Island, Bolivar Peninsula, and Anahuac NWR, where a huge diversity of birds are passing through in mid-April. In the Hill Country, where south meets east meets west, we’ll search for Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo, along with many southern and western birds, and we’ll get to witness an incredible evening bat emergence, all in a beautiful setting.

On the coast, we’ll hope for 25+ species of warblers, along with excellent diversity of shorebirds, wading birds, terns, thrushes, vireos, flycatchers, and other migrants. We also visit inland sites for a different set of birds, including Red-cockaded Woodpecker and breeding birds of the southeast, like Prairie and Swainson’s Warblers.

Itineraries will be updated with plenty of time before the next departure. Our itineraries usually show minimal changes between years, but some substantive updates can occur as birding access and information evolves. For any specific questions regarding these trips, please contact us.
