Mexico: Veracruz river of raptors
In collaboration with the San Diego Bird Alliance!
There are few locations in the world that can claim to be a global migration destination, but Veracruz is on that shortlist. Each year, millions of migrating birds use a narrow corridor along the coastal state of Veracruz to migrate south, including nearly the entire population of Broad-winged Hawks, Swainson’s Hawks, and Mississippi Kites, plus over a million Turkey Vultures. Other species have spectacular migrations through this region, including Anhinga, Wood Stork, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, and many others. Veracruz is migration paradise.
This trip will take advantage of peak migration while also reveling in the many resident species that call this area of Mexico home. This includes many endemic species like Mexican Sheartail, Bumblebee Hummingbird, Strickland’s Woodpecker, Blue-crowned Motmot, Transvolcanic Jay, Red Warbler, Gray-barred Wren, Veracruz Wren, and many others.
